Course Overview
This course is intended for people who have little to no previous experience in sewing, or for those who wish to refresh their sewing skills.
What You Will Learn
During the course, you will become familiar with the basic functions of your home sewing machine and learn essential sewing techniques. These skills will equip you to approach your own sewing projects with greater confidence.
Step-by-step approach you will create sample seams and stitches. Techniques covered include top stitch, double stitch, French seam, corded seam, eased seam, welt seam, and other useful stitches. You will also practise making a variety of pocket types, such as patch pockets, seam pockets, flap pockets, welt pockets, and side seam pockets. Additionally, you will learn how to insert different types of zips, including lapped, concealed, and centred zips.
Course Project
By the end of the course, you will have completed a beginner-friendly sewing project that incorporates the skills you have developed. Projects may include a lined tote bag, an apron, or a simple skirt.
Learning Experience
You will benefit from individualised attention, allowing you to master all the basics of using your sewing machine, all at your own pace and while receiving support tailored to your needs.
What to Bring
Please bring the following materials to each class: scissors, a sewing machine, hand sewing needles, pins, a seam ripper, thread, a fabric marking pencil or chalk, a ruler, cotton fabric and iron on interfacing material.
